This exceptionally good dwarf flowering shrub is closely related to to Cytisus, the Brooms, and is therefore a member of the Pea family of plants – Leguminosae.

Out of many species within the Genistas, Genista lydia is very popular because of its compact size and reliable abundant flowers.
