Priestgate

Mountain Laurel/Calico-Bush/Spoonwood

Latin Name : Kalmia latifolia

Kalmia requires similar growing conditions to Rhododendrons, as it belongs to the family Ericaceae. Forming a good sized shrub, and flowering in June, it is probably the best summer flowering shrubs for an acid soil.

With flower buds which are reminiscent of the sugar icing on ‘Ice Gem’ biscuits, and as the image below can testify, it easily rivals the Rhododendron with its spectacular display of pale pink flowers.
