Forsythia

Very popular shrub which can be seen everywhere – particularly when it is in flower. With opposite buds, its common and Latin names are the same. Forsythia is one of this country’s earliest spring flowering shrubs, and is deciduous, hardy and its tangled and vigorous growth makes a good hedge. It will tolerate being cut hard back. If growing as a shrub, thin out and cut back old flowering shoots to within a few Cms of the old wood, immediately after flowering.

The distinctive 4 petal flower.
