Exochorda

This strangely named but fantastic flowering shrub is an absolute ‘must have’ for any Spring Garden. It is very reliable, and is always smothered in white flowers in April. But be warned ! It puts on a phenominal amount of growth after it flowers, so make sure that you give it the space that it needs. Sometimes mistakenly assumed to be a Spiraea.

The shrub illustrated is the hybrid, Exochorda x macrantha ‘The Bride’, which prefers a soil which is neutral to acid. If your soild is more alkeline, then go for Exochorda korolkorii.
