A useful hardy family of evergreen shrubs. Elaeagnus x ebbingei and Elaeagnus pungens ‘Maculata’ can be seen averywhere. Both make good hedges, having thorns hidden amongst their foliage. The insignificant flowers of E x ebbingei have a particularly wonderful scent in the winter months.
Eleagnus pungens ‘Maculata’ is a great foliage plant all through the year. However, they are inclined to revert to type because of the way that they are propagated. But don’t let that put you off.
