Coneflower

Latin Name : Echinacea

Echinacea and Rudbeckia both being commonly known of as ‘Coneflower’, gives us a perfect reason to highlight why ‘Common Names’ are an extremely unreliable way to describe many plants. In this case, although their Family name is the same (Asteracaea in this case), their Generic name and the way they are described botanically is different. Echinacea is possibly best know medicinally as a beneficial way of avoiding or helping to overcome the effects of the common cold. It is also a very attractive plant.

Many colours available …

Some are almost too bright to be real …

And the reason that they are sometimes called the Coneflower.
