Our Founders

• 

  Phil Birtwhistle (Managing Director) and Roger Birtwhistle (Co-Founder)

  Managing Director of PGS, Phil has been part of the team since he was 14. Fully qualified in horticulture, Phil is continually bringing new ideas and developing PGS to make it the best it can be. Roger, whose Landscape training was for 3 Years at Merrist Wood and who stayed for a further year in the ’70s to study Arboriculture, has well over 50 years of experience. He retired from the field in 2010 but not from the business. He now acts as our consultant and helps with the apprenticeship scheme that Priestgate has run. He is also the author of the Plant Guide and the Blog and Advice sections of this Web Site and our ‘Go To’ for lots of things.

  Mary Birtwhistle (Co-Founder) and Phil Birtwhistle (Managing Director)

  Mary and Roger set the company up from scratch, with Mary encouraging Roger to believe that it was achievable.

  Mary has run the accounts and answered the phones for Priestgate Ltd. Since day dot, and your journey with us will most likely start with a chat on the phone with her. With many years of experience in running an office, she is always only too happy to help.

Our Landscapers

  Jay Hutchinson

  Jay joined the team in 2019. Now Team Leader for Landscaping, His knowledge, enthusiasm and skillset have made him a fantastic addition to the team.

  Brad Hutchinson

  Jay’s younger brother Brad has made a great addition to the team. Working as main team mate to Jay, combined the Hutchinsons help us to maintain the high standard of Landscaping that we offer to date.

  Carl Reynolds

  Carl has come to us from a carpentry background, offering a profound knowledge of construction, attention to detail, and a very keen effort to achieve every task to the best of his ability.

  Rich Lowe

  Rich comes to us from a student training background in a local outdoor activity centre. His head for planning and logic, along with a limitless amount of energy have made him a true gem to the Priestgate team.

Our Gardeners

  Danny Jewkes

  Danny has been with Priestgate since 2020, making a key addition to the team with his knowledge of the trade, organisational skills, and keen eye to detail. A top man to have on board

  Jake Idiens

  Jake joined our team as an apprentice back in 2019. He since has become a real asset to the firm with his horticultural knowledge and positive attitude to work.

  James Stephan

  James joined the team in 2020 with his background of working for Telford and Wrekin Council, James has come in with a great deal of experience and knowledge of the trade. An asset to the team.

  CJ McTigue

  CJ has been a real blesssing to the firm. Tag-Teaming with Danny as Department Manager for Maintenance. CJ has a great knowledge of his job, along with an eagerness to learn & a great manner with the customers.

  Kevin Synnott

  Kevin joined us from Wrekin Tree Care. With his background in tree surgery, Kevin now offers professional Tree Care as Priestgate’s In House Tree Surgeon. A great addition to our team of specialists.

  Luke Handy

  Luke came to us from a fabricating background. He has taken to the team like a duck to water, also being able to offer his welding skills to extend the life of our machines. Luke’s calm and collected attitude make his work something to behold, along with being one of our most reliable members of Priestgate.
